"Our church would like to book a CPM missionary speaker. What will be our financial obligation?" |
Overall, our objective is to make it easy for people to be obedient to the Lord as He burdens them about Jewish evangelism. We consider it our speaker’s responsibility to give a message and then to briefly describe the opportunity to give. Beyond that, it is up to the Lord to convict and the individual to respond. As a result, Chosen People Ministries (Canada) has developed some financial guidelines that we believe are honouring to God and meet our needs. Our first choice is always a separate love offering. This offering should be received after our speaker's message so that those who are led to give do so with understanding and so that there is no conflict with the church’s regular offering.
For churches that have a stated policy prohibiting a separate love offering, we request a retiring offering* combined with an honorarium. This procedure still allows individuals to give as the Lord may lead.
Our third choice is to receive a retiring offering.*
* A retiring offering is simply an offering plate or basket positioned at the door of the auditorium or on the speaker's display table. Individuals who are led by the Lord to give leave their gifts in this receptacle.

In each case, the speaker should have an opportunity to briefly describe the ministry and acquaint the congregation with the CPM offering envelopes he has provided (and which the ushers distributed prior to the service). He will also explain that each person who gives a gift or provides a name and address on an offering envelope will receive by mail several issues of our informative newsletter, The Chosen People and/or the missionary’s prayer letter. At no time do we use any pressure for funds. We want you and your congregation to be intelligently informed, but we depend on the Lord to move the hearts of His people to become involved in Jewish evangelism. |

"What about an honorarium?" |
A number of churches have asked us how much we would expect to receive in an honorarium. We have no hard and fast rule, but we would suggest an amount of about $200. Larger churches might wish to consider a guideline of $1 for every adult in attendance. If only an offering is received, we will gladly accept whatever amount the Lord provides. |

|
"What about travel expenses?" |
In addition to the love offering described above, we would appreciate receiving nominal travel expenses. Our guideline is the provincial standard of $ .32 per kilometre (to a maximum of $75); we will advise you in advance of the estimated total kilometres travelled. These funds will be applied directly to the speaker’s personal expenses incurred in travelling to your church and all other gifts received from your congregation will be applied directly to his personal ministry support. |
|
|
"How will our financial gifts be used?" |
All gifts received from your congregation, unless designated otherwise, will remain in Canada and be applied to the support and ministry of the visiting missionary speaker. Our missionaries have not always raised full support before coming on staff and use these speaking engagements as deputation opportunities. We would encourage you and your congregation to consider providing regular budget support to our speaker and thereby become involved in the exciting field of Jewish evangelism. Further support information can be obtained from the missionary or our Canadian Headquarters in Toronto. |

"After we have received an offering for the work of CPM, we would like to count and receipt it ourselves. May we then mail a single cheque directly to the CPM offices?" |
We would prefer to be given the offering directly after the service. Within a few weeks we will provide you with a receipt and summary accounting for your church records. If the church does choose to receipt all gifts and send one cheque to Chosen People Ministries, we must insist that we also receive the names and addresses of all contributors and individuals requesting information. The speaker has promised to provide each person with The Chosen People newsletter and/or prayer letter. Without the names and addresses from all cheques and/or donation envelopes, we cannot follow through on our commitment. |
